Also assists witness who were threatened or harassed. Can give information on court proceedings and provides speakers for Community Education. Can get monetary compensation if they qualify. For filing charges of sexual harassment and discrimination. Must file charge within 300 days of alleged discriminatory act. EEOC performs investigation: interviews complaint, employer, and any witnesses. If probable cause of discrimination found, EEOC will call perpetrator and if he does not comply, he can be subpoenaed. Will request back pay, lost benefits and reinvestment, depending on circumstances. Covers Businesses employing 15 or more persons (Title 7). NOTE: DC employees may first need to file with the Dept. of Human Rights (202-724-1385). Persons employed by the federal government must first file within their agency.
