Metro Paratransit Service for the Disabled

Metro’s Department of Americans with Disabilities Act will arrange door-to-door transportation for anyone who is disabled regardless of age. Any destination currently served by metrobus or metrorail. Applications must be completed and submitted with a physician’s statement.**Starting June 27, 2004, any Metro Access customer (person w/disability) and 1 accompanying customer may ride Metrobus and Metrorail free for a 18-month trial period. Call Metro Access at (301) 562.5370 between 8am-4:30pm, weekdays, for more info. All routes have accessible buses, but not all are buses are accessible. Will arrange a wheelchair lift bus to be put on a bus route once or on a regular schedule. Wheelchair users must be able to enter and exit the bus by themselves or bring an escort. Call 24 hours in advance and before 3pm.

Call ‘n’ Ride is a transportation service funded by the DC Office on Aging and administered by WEHTS. It allows elderly (60 years or older) DC residents who meet certain eligibility requirement to obtain transportation for a portion of its normal cost. It is a curb-to-curb service, and trips may be made for any purpose. Once your application has been approved, you will be issued a photo ID card and a coupon order form. You may buy coupons on a sliding scale fee depending upon income. The coupons must be paid for by check or money order. Taxicabs provide the transportation. Drivers will accept CALL ‘N’ RIDE coupons to cover the cost of fares for trips that you take. To find out if you are eligible for CALL ‘N’ RIDE services, please call the office.
